About the Company

Overview of Active Ageing Australia®

Active Ageing SA Inc began in 1980 with a mission to advance the issue of physical activity levels for older South Australians.

Trading as Active Ageing Australia®, Active Ageing SA Inc. is a non-profit project and training-based incorporated association with a focus on the role of physical activity in an ageing society. Active Ageing SA is governed by a Board that sets the strategic direction for the organisation at monthly meetings and an annual planning day.

Active Ageing Australia® has established a reputation for program development by creating new products or courses for specific markets in response to demand. For example, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs requested an update of exercise skills for their Day Club leaders. Active Ageing Australia®, compiled a booklet of information and delivered the training to the leaders which was highly successful.

Active Ageing Australia® has a number of training and education products and services that focus on preparing Leaders of physical activity for older adults:

  • Easy Moves for Active Ageing® (EMAA) – a nationally accredited two-day training course
  • EMAA Update – a one-day course for EMAA Leaders delivered every two years
  • EMAA Music – a one-day course for EMAA Leaders with a focus on music and movement
  • Tai Chi Chair – a two-day course of gentle exercise ideas for Leaders of frail adults
  • “Be active in ………” directories of physical activity options for older people at the local level
  • SA Falls prevention website
  • Falls prevention conferences and workshops
  • NoFalls Leader training course
  • Active Ageing Week – a promotional week of physical activities in South Australia

Active Ageing Australia® has delivered training in South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, ACT and Queensland.

Active Ageing Australia®, has been recognised by the Government as the peak body in South Australia for the dissemination of information as it relates to physical activity for the ageing population. Active Ageing Australia® has adopted a self-management training and education philosophy to promote the role of physical activity and partnered many organisations with a similar approach. Active Ageing Australia® has a network of professionals whom it can access for specific projects as required.

Active Ageing Australia® has an office located in the CBD of Adelaide with current computing and office equipment. Current staff is equal to five full-time equivalent with access to another ten part-time consultants and trainers as required. In addition, Active Ageing Australia® hosts a number of university students on placement experience that contribute significantly to achieving the outcomes as specified in the Strategic Plan.
